What shotgun to get

Im thinking about buying a shot gun but dont know where to start, i think i want a remington, or maby a mossberg, i dont know. Im going to be using it for Home defence but i also want to get into fowl hunting. How much differance is there between the MOSSBERG 590 and The Remington 870 and are there other componys out there that have similer guns around the same price. Any ways all opinions will be much apreceated
Im also concidering the remington 1100 and mossberg 590, which compony is better or are they the same.

I recommend the Remington 870. I've hunted with a synthetic 870 express for about 11 years.

I've fallen in a duck pond and pushed my 870 into the muck in the bottom, catching myself. I cleaned the barrel out with some tulle and hunted the whole morning. As long as I could pump the gun it would shoot.

If you are going to go with an automatic pony up and get the Benelli Super Black eagle. Complicated, but an awesome gun.

Get the 870. Hands down the most reliable shotgun money can buy. I'd trust my life to one of my 870s any time without question.

Oh, and on a side note, I would love to get the Browning eventually to hunt pheasant with and to shoot trap with. It is a beautiful shotgun. But there are a lot more accessories for an 870 to make it into a HD shotgun.

I have an 870 & a Benelli nova in a pump. Hands down I like my nova better. My 870 only shoots 3" though, the nova shoots 3 1/2". THe drawback to the Nova is that it kicks hard if you shoot it much (ie clays or dove shoot)

Sorry, I checked them all because I couldn't decide!!!

Well, here are a few suggestions: The A5 is a very nice semi-auto, but for HD, pump is the way to go (come on, "CHHH-CHHH", there is nothing like that sound)

The mossy is nice. I personally don't have one, but others have said the newer ones are not built as well and use plastic parts.

The 870 is the best all-around shotgun. You can get an 18" barrel for HD and then quickly change it to a longer one for hunting. Put a pistol grip on it too with a collapsible stock and you have a nice HD rig.

3-1/2" on an 18" barrel with a pistol grip? Oh, man. Hang on for the ride!!!

I've got a Benelli Supernova Tact w/the pistol grip. Love this gun. When I purchased the Benelli I was debating between it and an 870. A few friends of mine have done alot of mods to their 870's, like AR stocks and tac lights.
Bought my Supernova over the 870 only because I got it for the same price as the 870. Personally I think the Benelli is sexier gun-what the wifey says. Only drawback w/it is that you can't do nearly as many mods to it like the 870 or even a Mossberg.
