Rounds on hand?

I was having a discussion with a friend today and we were talking about how ammo has gone up in the last year or so, he pulled out his phone and did a few calculations as to how much would have been saved by buying xx rounds xx months ago -

So, how many rounds do YOU(generally) keep on hand per caliber?

Tough question to answer.

As far as pistol calibers, I think I would only need 1k or so. I doubt things are going my way if I have to burn through 1k in the pistol when I have an AK and an AR sitting right next to me.

As far as rifles go I would like to have 3k-5k rounds in stock at all times. Unfortunately, I don't really have the cash to stock that much at this point in time but it is my goal.

If ammo prices keep increasing I'll probably buy a good 10,000 rounds of .22 LR. Otherwise I just buy a box of 500 and it should last me a month or so.

I make it a practice that just about every time we visit Wally World I go back and buy at least a box of 9mm for a couple of reasons. Figure a min amount to have around is 1000.

It ain't getting any cheaper
Buying at the range is giving up your first born
If the SHTF it will be more valuable than money - in fact it will be money.
If the left gets their way ammo will be restricted & more expensive.
