CMMG Upper: Mid-length vs Carbine

Hey Guys,

I am looking into getting a CMMG 14.5" lightweight upper and wanted to get some thoughts on the gas system. What are the pros and cons of the mid-length gas system vs the shorter carbine length gas system other then sight radius?? Are there any noticeable differences in weight, recoil or reliability??

PS: Does anyone have experience with CMMG product?? Any thoughts on it??

Thanks,

-Derek

The next upper I buy I plan on getting a CMMG 18" midlength.

It will be just a general range gun but will be kept on hand for any potential zombie invasions. The goal is to keep it as light and reliable as possible.

PS: I just bought a brand new Rock River lightweight M4 last week that I am considering selling to buy the CMMG. I love Rock River stuff; am I crazy to even be looking to replace it with a CMMG just to be 1.5" shorter and possibly a mid-length??

I would go with the midlength on a 16", but for 14.5" it may look kinda funny. The CAR length is supposedly harsher on the system, but I think the midlength in this case is just a solution to a non-existent problem.

EDIT: Also at 16" you can have a removable FS while at 14.5 you cannot. It must have at least a 1.5" FS welded onto it without getting an NFA tax-stamp.

No doubt in my mind............14.5" midlength is the way to go.

Midlength-it makes the recoil impulse feel like a full sized rifle plus I'm not burning my finger on the front sight base like I do with M4 length gas systems. CMMG has a good reputation in the AR world so why not. My Armalite Middy is my favorite rifle.

i have an 18" cmmg and it has been great. my next ar will be a CMMG also.

i would recommend getting as long of a gas system as possible. the longer systems seem to be more reliable
