but you cant argue the fact that a gun with no bullets in it is the least likely to kill someone.(by AD or ND) now i keep some of my guns loaded and follow all of the safe handling rules. there are also times an unloaded can can be deadly, and thats when you need it to defend yourself. my point is just if its not loaded you cant shoot it. and if im around anyone handling a gun while not involed in some sort of shooting activity i feel much safer with the chamber empty. but the great thing about the safety rules is that each one on its own is enough to prevent injury so if a person skips one of the rules no one should get hurt. and i am in no way saying that if the chamber is empty that the other rules dont apply, because that is not the case but if i want someone to follow one rule it would be the "empty chamber" but unless you follow all the rules you wont find me hanging out with you.

I voted for the 1st one.

Even if you fail to follow all the other steps, nothing that isn't supposed to be destroyed will be shot unless you are pointing your gun at it.

heres what im saying...if your out shooting at the range...or with friends or people are shooting around you...then "empty chamber" is not a rule. i think its "what rule would you rather see yourself and others follow"

i do see what your saying though...its just really not applicable with shooting.

I think it's because the poll is about what rule is most important to you.

Do I want a "finger registered " weapon pointed at me? No. I do make the apparently sometimes incorrect assumption that no one I'm shooting with is that freaking stupid. Others at the range, maybe not so much. Those that are get reported. If that doesn't work, I leave.

well the question wasn't specific enough i guess.

but if its between finger off trigger or pointed in a safe direction
i would go with pointed in safe direction-
because like ive said guns can just go off its very very rare but it can happen and if it does i want the gun pointed in a safe direction

I think the first one, Don't point at anything not willing to destroy, is along the lines of keeping your finger off the trigger. Both combined, and followed to the pencil point, will prevent ALL accidental shootings of "objects not willing to be destroyed".
