I thought about grip tape, but I'm going with the much more expensive stippling.

The grip tape on my .45ACP service model made a dramatic improvement.

I could never get it to stay on the gun. Didn't matter what or how much I cleaned the grip. I even took the gun down to a bare frame(I HATE the mag release!!) and washed it in the dishwasher and it still didn't stay on.

I would not insist that it is "necessary" but it sure does feel like an improvement to me. On any sidearm I carry, I will use Agrip (from Brooks Tactical). Beats the black sandpaper grip tape, HANDS DOWN, in my opinion and is not rough on the hands. Works with sweaty or wet hands, even. If I could say anything more about it, I'd probably have to become a dealer, I like it so much.

Grip tape on my comp xd and none on my carry gun. The tape makes a huge difference in my ability to grip the gun.

So, I am looking for opinions from those who have put on grip tape and kept it, and those who put it on and later took it off. If you have tried neither, please don't post...I am looking for firsthand experience.

The bottom line is: Is grip tape even necessary?

Cheers! M2
Kinda strange. You answered your own question yet still seek advice.
