I don't.

I don't shoot as much since I started IDPA. I used to blow through 3-4 boxes easy per trip to the range. That's all just lane shooting. Now, I shoot maybe one box at our IDPA matches. Either way, I can't justify the initial start up cost. It will take a long time to make up a few hundred bucks three bucks at a time. Then there's storage and workarea issues to deal with. And having to pick up brass at the range. Given all that, it's not worth it to me.

Yes I reload. I can shoot 10,000 rounds a year shooting USPSA/IDPA and at that round count factory ammo is just to expensive. Plus I can make the loads that are best for me and my guns that will meet PF (power factor). I believe reloading will always pay for itself. It's just a matter of how long it will take to pay for itself.

Yes, My pistol reloads using lead rounds only cost around $8/100, and my 223 rounds cost about $22/100 to load.

So my saving are about: $10/100 on 9mm
$15/100 on 40sw
$20/100 on 38spcl
$21/100 on 223

So if you figure you shoot 300 9mm rounds every 1.5 months you can save about $240/ year.

I haven't bought factory .38/.357 in decades. I got my reloading setup back in the late '70's so I'm sure it has paid for itself by now. Once you get a good setup, it'll last a looooong time. Then when a shiny new gun shows up under your pillow (is that safe?! ) all you have to do is plunk down $25-30 for a set of dies, and you can feed said acquisition cheaper, which may lead to yet another shiny toy under your pillow sooner.

I find reloading relaxing, get into a rhythm and forget about the world for a little while.... until the wife yells, "don't forget it's garbage night!"
