How would YOU handle this situation?
A friend asked me about this the other day and wanted to know what I would have done. It was one of those Friend of a Friend embellished stories.
I'm curious to know who would have handled this what way. The scenario : It's 10 pm, you live at home alone. You hear some noise outside and see your motion sensor lights light up. You peek out your window and see two individuals trying to get into your car. What do you do?

OK, I'll be the first. Police because there was no physical danger to myself. If that part happened to change then so would my answer. It's a PITA but this is what Police and Insurance are for. A gun is for saving your life and not your car, IMO. Flame away all...

According to the story, the friend of a friend caught his car being burglarized, called the police, drew his weapon and ordered the 17 year olds burglarizing it to the ground. They attacked him, he shot one, the other fled the scene. Apparently it was quite the legal battle.

Sorry, no acceptable choice. The situation is fluid.

hmm! not sure if i agree with the drawing of the weapon at all! most of the times if it is the right decision to draw ur weapon, the legal issues of it will take care of themselves! here i dont see that! i dont see his life endangered or a threat of serious bodily harm! it sounds like he provoked the attack! i have to say this is a poor execution of the usage of ones weapon!

Don't keep valuables in your car, let insurance take care of what they do get. It's not worth going outside to confront the thieves.

So what if the weapon was holstered, just like I was going out for a nice stroll. Let's consider a different scenario. You go out for an evening walk with your sweetheart, you're armed and as soon as you leave and lock your door you notice two thugs breaking into your car....are you legally sound in confronting them without drawing your weapon first. Surely I have the right (no matter how stupid it may be) to go out concealed carrying and yell at someone attempting to deface and destroy my property. Surely I have the right to at least make a VERBAL attempt to halt such an act. Surely in a free society I have the right to be armed when I do so. Safety would dictate that I let the police handle the situation, but failing to do so may be a lapse of judgment but would almost certainly be a legal one. The devil, as they say, is in the details. If I already have my weapon drawn I have escalated the level of force to deadly force. If my weapon is holstered it's simply two people having an argument over property rights. If they attack me, THEN I may draw depending upon circumstances.

That's what I was going to say... what if I was taking my dog out for a walk and then discover some thugs on my property trying to steal my car. I'm obligated to say something..... then if they come at me, then what?????
I hate how the laws protect the scum of the earth

Ok. this was ur question! even if u go outside and they try to attack u, shouldnt u try ot go back inside and lock the door? u should prevent the use of deadly force at all cost unless absolutley necessary! maybe i just read ur post wrong and got excited about it! didnt mean to start an argument or something! My sincere apologies! every situation is unique and shouldnt be judged from the sidelines!
