When is deadly force necessary.

Nevada state law says that I wouldn't have to go back in my house. We have no duty to retreat here.

What if I cannot retreat safely? I'm surely not turning my back on two armed thugs.

If you have stand your ground laws then you have no duty to retreat. I think you have to look at this from both a legal and a practical standpoint.

If I understand your intentions with this poll correctly, you are trying to illustrate that there are no hard and fast rules that apply to an ever changing situation. Am I getting warm?

Yep...pretty close.

That and situations can change from good to bad really fast, sometimes faster than our ability to react.

My point, in the end is, do what you need to do to protect your life. Don't get yourself into a dumb situation, but if you do, do what needs to be done to survive and worry about the legal consequences later.

As the old adage goes, I'd rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6.

For the record I told my friend if it had been me I'd have done the following.

Begin videotaping through the window with my video camera. Grab the shotgun and put it by my side, and call the police.

If they'd already gotten into the car I'd wait quietly for the police to get there, I'd rather the cops have the element of surprise.

If they hadn't gotten in yet I'd yell out the window that the police were on there way, to try to avoid any damage to my vehicle.

I'll +1 on most of the above. I really don't even believe I would yell in this scenario. I will add that the police can usually be counted on to arrive in about 2 mins. or less where I live though. That gives me a little different tilt on the whole situation.

I called once about a suspicious car parked on the street here in front of a vacant house for sale 2 nights in a row. They were here in less than one minute. Turned out to be a just a high school guy who was parking and going to his girlfriends on the other side of the block. Amazing. They are good here.

Similar situation happened awhile back close to where we live. Guy heard somebody breaking into his car,without warning he drew & shot the BG from the house.He spent a long while behind bars.If the threat is not clear & present take awhile to think it over imo.

lol... what i would want to do.. is shoot them both.. but cant

so i would call the cops, grab my gun and a bat and keep the gun holstered and go out there with a bad.. just because they are not threating your life doesnt mean they can get away with stealing ( cause you know the cops are not going to show up on time.. there is no threat ).. so i would go out there with a bat and a gun and tell them to get on the ground and if they run.. oh well.. they run.. if they come after me.. then they are dead.. and if they lay down and wait for the cops that will be there in 30 mins.. even better!
