Fuhgedaboudit! It is more extraneous and redundant than a thumb safety on a double action revolver...

While I don't necessarily want it on mine, overall I do think it is good think to offer.

I wouldn't turn down an XD no matter what. But I'm not sending mine in any time soon to get one added.

I've trained all my adult life with 1911's even on weapons without one I sweep for it anyway. I actually like the Idea on the XD, It kind of makes the XD a modern equivilent of the 1911.

I own mine very specifically because they does not have an external safety.

If I had wanted a manual safety, I would have purchased a different gun entirely. I like mine without thank you!

I can't really say. Mine don't have the safety and I don't see anything as missing. I don't have any plans to get one added (don't even know if one could have one added at some point?) but without actually handling a thumb safety equiped XD I can't really give an up or down vote. I guess we're voting on the concept more than the reality. I can see where there would be an advantage to having a safety especially in a gun grab situation where you feel the gun slipping away and flick the safety up or it is already up and the bad guy takes an extra second to figure out how to end your life giving you time to pull the knife or j-frame out and finish the fight.

Like I said, I just can't judge it fairly without actually handling one.

My former duty guns have been a S&W .357, a Sig 9 mm and a Glock 9mm. None of them were safety equiped. My current is the XD Compact .45 and it too does not have an external safety. I greatly prefer my XD Compact .45 over the Glock - it just doesn't even compare.
