Conceptually it's easy enough, but I agree with some of the others where the potential exists for problems if things aren't lined up exactly right. Here in AZ we use the "fill in the dot" ballot, and I think it removes the potential for confusion and other problems while still being more reliable (IMO) than electronic voting machines.

Been quite busy lately and not able to participate much in the forum, so I'm probably dancing in mine field here. But what's the issue? The ballot is not confusing at all to me. I grew up in FL and have seen the elderly get confused over much more simple tasks though. But really...where's the confusion? I remember those ballots and even misalignments are not major issues or a source for confusion...from what I recall. But like I said, you get some very old folks down there that are severely challenged just getting from point A to B.

The little arrows make it abundantly clear how to vote after approximately 5 seconds of viewing the ballot.
That said, I voted "a little confusing" because: 1. It is a person's natural tendency to read down one column and then the next so it would have been more intuitive to have the vote holes line up in that manner, rather than alternating (left column, right column, left column, etc.). 2. 49.99% of people are of below average intelligence. |

I was living in West Palm Beach in 2000 and I voted on it.
Zero confusion for those who actually read it. Those who got their sample ballot and had someone else tell them how to vote (ie people who can't read English) would have had a VERY difficult time with it.... they could have asked for help it they needed it. they didn't. So f'em.
