I went with .40 S&W - combination of both worlds. Higher capacity than a 45acp but larger bullet than a 9mm.

This really isn't that complicated. I started out carrying a .357 mag loaded with 158 LSWCHP (the FBI or Chicago Load) and two more speed loaders on the belt for a total of 18 rounds. Then it was off to 9mm races and a Sig with 15 in the gun and 30 more on the belt for 45 rounds total. Then off to a Glock - big mistake in my hands - and many, many 9 mm rounds to spray and pray as I couldn't shoot it worth a darn - and now an XD .45 with 13 in the gun and 26 more for a total of 39 rounds of .45 ACP. I really like the XD .45.

If you really want to compare do what I did: hold one of the best 9 mm rounds in one hand (147 grain hydrashock) and one of the best .45 ACP in the other (230 grain hydrashock). Just do that and see what you decide.

...but they do make a .50AE. Why don't you just carry a Desert Eagle around with ya'? Or how 'bout a 500SW? Oh, I got it....a 50BMG (read: Big Mother****ing Gun) pistol if there ever were such a thing?

There's more to a man's gun than size.

Wait, did I just say that?!?!?

A Desert Eagle seems a bit heavy for carry and the department wouldn't approve it. It is a nice thought. The same is true for the 500 SW. I was looking between the 9mm and the .45 ACP (though good arguements have been made for the .40 SW).

Sorry I made you feel small.
