Maybe not what you're looking for: BOTH

I'm not concerned about the "ballistic" characteristics for my reasoning. Its strictly "gun" size for me. My 9mm guns (EMP) are more compact and what I carry if higher concealment needs/clothing dependent, otherwise I carry my .45ACP guns (1911 Commander or XD45C).

I can hit what I'm aiming at rapidly with my guns and practice extensively with them, so as long as I'm carrying good defensive factory ammo of either caliber, I'm good.

I think all the calibers work well, just pick the one you shoot well. I have an XD45c and a 1911...I wouldn't mind have a 9mm though as they're definitely cheaper to shoot.

I think every time a user posts a thread with the words "9mm" and "vs." and ".45" in the title, they should automatically be banned.

Haha, just kidding, that's why I own many different calibers.

Kind of a interesting question. For my personal defense round.... 45 acp hands down. Started in the Military with GI 1911 along time ago. Love the XD-40 service right now. bad enough caliber to get the job done.

of course this all depends on you getting rounds on target quickly and accurately.

I prefer my .45 because IMO bigger is better and she's packin' my 9mm so I can't carry both

+1
I either carry an XD9sc or XD45 compact.
I feel confident with either.
But the 45 is more fun to shoot.

I own both, but prefer the 9mm for several reasons.

Watch a bowling pin match sometime, that is what changed my mind and I went with .45acp.
