I work at an indoor range adn gun store. We post that all guns must be in a case or bag before entering the store. We also have a dont ask dont tell policy about concealment. Now for the reasoning.
Scenario 1: Potential robbery. 4 thugs walk into the store with open carry. There's only 3 employees sometimes in the store. Maybe one is helping someone on the range, maybe another went to the bathroom. In this case, the store gets screwed. Your argument: "But if half of your customers had guns on them loaded for the worst, then the customers would be able to help bla bla bla." What do you think is going to happen when 10 armed customers, most of which I just watched miss the q target a number of times at 5 yards, draw and open fire on 4 thugs dispersed throughout the store? That amount of crossfire is unimaginabley worse than just getting robbed and calling it a day. Scenario 2: Pure and simple negligence. gun stores/indoor ranges get real crowded sometimes. If all the customers had guns on them, many times a day they get involved in a conversation about their guns with other customers. This leads to wanting to show the gun to another person. Now we have a situation where there is absolutely no safe direction to point a loaded gun, and a customer trying to clear his gun in a crowded lobby. They mean well and are trying to be safe, but **** happens and shots get fired on accident. A true to life story: Two guys go shooting on our range. When they are done they come out to the lobby and have a seat at one fo our tables and start conversing and drinking some cokes from the machine. One guy wants to show his gun to the other, pulls it out of his holster and while holding it under the table, begins to unload his 1911. Big surprise, he has his finger on the trigger and cooks off a round directly at his friends leg. Luckily, the bullet hit the chair leg which was probably only a few inches away. There are too many stories to tell about negligent discharging of a firearm on our premises. Thankfully, with the new rules in place, the only problems caused by these idiots are the holes in the cieling and walls of our range. Lastly, any idiot without a criminal record can get a concealed carry license. It's these folks that instigate the policies that we put in place. The very thing that makes our country great, also allows some seriously disturbing people to carry a handgun. |

I went to the range today.. and once again.. noticed all the bullet holes in the right side of the shooting port.. seems thats the reason for the "No Drawing from holsters" rule

I voted no. If I can't carry I will not spend my money there.
I read a similar question on a different board and one of the responses was, "Isn't that like not letting a new mother breastfeed in the nursery of the hospital?" |
