We do not have Open Carry in Ohio, only concealed. Therefore, no one ever knows. For me, no metal detector = me armed. (except alcohol establishments)

None of the gun stores or ranges around here allow you to carry on the premises. Unfortunately I have no choice but to patronize them. I always thought it was a bit hypocritical.

Nope, Just carry anyways... The no carry signs for business in Kentucky are kinda funny....

1) If they HAPPEN to see that you are carrying, they can ask you to either leave or put it away... (step 1)

2) If you refuse, THEN you can get in trouble when they call the police for unlawful carry ($25 fine).

If you really push it, yes you can get in some heat, but every time I carry in a place with those signs (except govt buildings, schools, etc.) they never know and it really isnt a big deal in Kentucky.

Kinda wierd, because if you go un 20 miles to Ohio, its a criminal act.

As I think about it more, in Ohio, if you post, there is NO exemption for the owner to carry. In Ohio, the gun store owner would be breaking the law by violating his own sign.

I cant carry open or concealed legally because i live in a ****ty state, so this is kind of a mute point in terms of the poll. But I read through this thread thinking about why the owner's might have adopted such policy. I have seen plenty of idiots at gun stores.. Pointing weapons in all directions, at people, etc..

Now you throw guns in that actually ARE loaded (Rule number 1 doesn't apply here.. people are idiots).. and people fondling guns.. working the actions.. one accident and its an insurance/lawsuit nightmare waiting to happen..

The number one rule of business is to make enough money to stay in business.. We all know that most gun shops aren't making millions, they are just getting by, so 1 mishap could close your family run business of many years forever.

I'm not saying that I agree with these shops, I'm just saying maybe we have to see the other side.

Can't carry. Don't buy. That's just how it goes.

In Orlando, All the gun store I go to have a sign that say 'no loaded firearms allowed beyone this point'. It may be a florida thing. Not too sure though.

I was thinking the same thing. You always have to make rules to the lowest common denominator, and with guns, you have to assume that a person is the average idiot. In a store that people are openly handeling firearms, it would be hard to tell if some idiot pulled out there loaded gun, or were handeling an empty gun. And it has been said a thousand times before....It only takes one mistake.

When I go to the "action shooting" event on monday, we are allowed to have full mags on our belt, and the firearm must have an empty mag well, and hammer down. You can only handle the gun in the "safe room". We can even stand outside to smoke with our gear still on.

Don't know why the rule exists here, and I think I will ask next time I'm there.

I have a question for Robinsre (I think it is)... don't you work with chemicals, in a lab or a pharmacy or something? Do you have your coffee cup or soda can on the bench when you are working with chemicals? Probably not a good idea, because you may get them mixed up.

Maybe (devils advocate here?) they don't allow you to bring in your firearms for a couple of reasons.
1. You set your loaded XD down (don't ask me why) to look at something, and someone else picks it up... BLAM!

2. You come in with a XD that has been used in a crime. "Hey, let me see that XD there" distract the guy, swap pistols, leave with a "clean" gun, while some poor schmoe gets a hot one.

Could be too many opportunities to get things mixed up.

Or as Tard says "or they are just bastards"
