Lead 200gr SWC and the XD-45ACP, have you tried them together?

So I ordered 2250 200gr lead RSFP bullets from a place a friend recommended. They showed up today and they shipped me the wrong bullets and instead of what I ordered I got 200gr lead SWC bullets. To be honest I don't care to much about the shape but I had read here on the forum that some people were having trouble with SWC and the XD-45ACP.

I would love to hear if you have tried SWC and how well they worked in your XD-45ACP. For the sake of this thread please don't repeat here-say information. If you have first hand experience with SWC in your XD-45ACP, good or bad, I would love to hear it.

If you have used SWC please tell me what weight bullets, bullet maker and OAL they were loaded to.

Thanks
mcb

200 gr. SWC

My girlfriend and I shot a 50 rd box through our new Tacticals without a single problem. I shot most of them since it was her first time shooting a handgun. She was only shooting singles. They worked just fine.

I was helping a friend do some reloading for his XD45 (I have the 9), and the load that I had worked up for my 1911 would not fit/function in his since the throat is shorter. What I had to do was bump the shoulder back until it was even with the case mouth and then it worked. I went through the same process with my CZ75 9mm as they are as well. Just keep bumping it until it works.

I did not give the information on the bullets that I used since the company, MasterBlaster Bullets, is no longer in business, but I still have plenty.. The profiles are similar across bullet makers though.

I had a horrible time trying to use SWC. It would jam on every other shot if I was lucky is was every third shot. They fail to feed because they got caught on the feed ramp. I saw some had good luck one at time while teaching someone. I also had luck getting the first round to load out of the mag but it would not cycle the second round. I have heard of maybe four or five people in the forum that haven't had issues but the other hundreds or thousands of us have.

I have one of the first XD 45's. I have tried it with lead 200gr swc's. Terrible is the word. I was trying hot loads, mid range loads and target loads,--same results--jammamatic. It does shot ball ammo perfect though.

Of all my 45's, the only pistol I own that will feed everything I put thru it is an old S&W 4506 no dash. Heck it will even feed an empty case from the magazine.

I think it has something to do with the actual bullet. I know there are two designs... 1) being a "Crayola" tip type and 2) being the blunter rounder Lee TL design.

The Lee ones fees with just a slight adjustment of the OAL and adding a bit more to toe taper crimp.

Haven't been able to try the traditional design.

I have tried to shoot the Oregon Trail 200 gr. SWC and had miserable results. The OT 200 gr round nose works without any problems. I have called Springfield and they told me that the XD "was not designed for SWC". Maybe just "lawyer talk".

SWC Issues

I had awful problems with 200gr LSWC at the range last Tuesday. The rounds feed just fine, but upon firing they do something I have never seen before. The brass from the fired round gets shoved down into the magazine "stovepiping" in the mag. This was not a jam I had ever heard of before. After the third such jam I decided to abort shooting those rounds until I could find out what was going on. I was only loading 5 rounds into the 10round mag that came with my XD Tactical Compact. Relieved to know I am not the only one who has had problems with them. As far as accuracy they were as accurate as any ammo I have shot, wish I could figure out how to get them to function reliably.

Lousy results with the XD, but my Glock 21SF handles them perfectly.

It's the mag's design. Loves2shoot can explain it.

I some 185 and 200 gr LSWC... work great. But the problem is with the magazine... for some reason it causes the back side on the top of the magazine to push out. It also caused my magazine not to drop out properly. Had to take my pliers to bend it back then it works fine. I use those magz for practice and shooting LSWC from them only. I get my LSWC from Midstates bullets at Powdervalleyinc.com. They go very fast.
