Help me decide on what caliber Savage bolt gun to get.

i have a 308 savage stevens w/o accutrigger and for 300 its a great rifle
but i did end up buying a 7mm remington mag at walmart for 370 i think at it was the package deal with the simmons scope and it comes with the accutrigger

i like the 308 i think its the perfect all around hunting cartridge but if i plan on shooting long distance like 400+ i will go with the 7mm magnum now i know the 308 can do 400+ just fine but the 7mm mag does it better
and 7mm finnaly have good target bullets for them. Not in the same numbers as the 30s but there are still plenty weather it be hunting, target, or whatever. the one thing that the 30s have on the 7mms is that FMJ arn't around for 7mms i know there is a couple for the 7s but not stuff you find at most gun shops.

and if you decide to go with a long action ie 30-06 i would go for the 300 win since you will be reloading you can load down to 30-06 levels but you will still have the option to go with a full house magnum load if you needed without having to worry

i really dont see the point in worring what people are killing with on the other side of the world.
the odds that you will be 10,000 miles away with YOUR rifle in a SHTF situation is slim to none and i guess you could be on a safari but come on i would think before a trip like that you would make sure you had a way to get ammo or you would already have it BEFORE you got there. and it would probably cheaper to rent a gun over there instead of bring your own. i imagine that taking a gun over seas is just a little bit of a PITA and in the USA you can get either with NO problem

the .308 is the "in" cartridge right now the 30-06 had its day and still remains in wide use today but i would guess that mor NEW 308s are being bought then NEW 30-06s but i could be wrong. i dont think there is enough difference between the two to worry about

30.06 only outshines 308 in the heavier grain bullets. Say 190 grain and heavier. It's also going to take a bit more powder to fill each of those 30.06 cases making it more expensive than 308 to reload. I have the Savage in 308 and it shoots better than I do I'm sure. If you plan on shooting like I do (60 rounds a session) get a limbsaver recoil pad. Your shoulder will thank you very much.

OK my local Walmart has a Savage 110 in 30-06 with a cheap-o scope for $326. It has the accutrigger. The Starting price for a .308 is $550.....

Crap, just when I go and decide on a .308 I find this.....

Anybody know much about this 110 model?

I just googled "Savage 110" and the reviews seem to be favorable. The accuracy appears to be excellent. Fit and finish leaves something to desire. Sounds a lot like my savage 93r17: impressive out-of-box accuracy, low price, and so-so finish.

30-06 has a wide range of loads for any type hunting. can be made as accurate as any gun

Yes, now I just need to see where I can buy one besides walmart. I would rather not buy a gun through walmart if I can help it.
