What? Ballistics wise the .270 and .308 are so similar that the average shooter can't tell the difference.

.270 150 grain bullet with 100 yard zero.
200 yards 4.1" drop
300 yards 15.5" drop
400 yards 36.8" drop
500 yards 71.3" drop

.308 150 grain bullet with 100 yard zero.
200 yards 4" drop
300 yards 14.7" drop
400 yards 34.2" drop
500 yards 64.7" drop

Now I sold firearms for 14 years. And I can tell you that Joe Sixpack out hunting in the woods can barely make a 200-250 yard shot most of the time. The difference between the .270 and the .308 at 300 yards is 0.8" and there are damn few rifles/shooters that can hold that tight at 300 yards.

And you can get .308 almost everywhere man lives on earth. The same can't be said for 30.06

.308 and 30.06 are very close to the same when reloading. Perhaps 50-100 fps difference at most with most loads.
You're misinformed.

More big game has been taken by 30.06 then any two calibers put together.

Can you give some facts along with that? A little more explanation for me would be great.

Let me think. The Buffalo were all taken with black powder big bore firearms I would guess that black powder big bore firearms have killed more game than all "modern" center fire cartridges put together.

Buffalo Cartridges of the American Frontier

As far as a modern cartridge. My guess would be 30-30.

And tell me PackerfanXD. How am I misinformed? The .308 has been a issue military round for over 50 years all across the world. So you are going to be able to find ammo for it. The 30.06 has not been an issue firearm for a long time.

Most common cartridges found in the third world.

7.62x39
7.62x51
5.56x45
5.45X39

In no particular order.

And you would have an easier time finding 7.62X54R in most Comblock countries than you would 30.06

And 7.92x57, as well as the first Mauser, the 7mm, that took ELEPHANTS down in Africa...ever read anything by Jack O'Conner or heard of how much ivory W D Bell took with a 7mm Mauser??

Get the .308, Here is a pick of the one I used to have. Had it custom built by fred mareo @ sharp shooter supply.

this rifle was a tac driver, regret letting it go but had to let it go.

Thanks guys for the info. It looks like .308 is it. With 30-06 a great backup. Well at least maybe the .308 for me, I still like the 06 too....
