I know most of us are very very pleased with our XD's. SO lets assume the 9mm carry is a SCXD.
The snub nose is a S&W .357/.38

Those are the ONLY calibers i am considering BUT, not the only guns. This will be my running, biking, camping weapon. I need to be able to shoot and do it well even when im exhausted.

If you have a suggestion for a sub-compact 9mm thats not the XD, please let me know in your post. Same goes for the Smith. But please, i dont want 80million posts on why the .40 or .45 is better or why everyone needs to carry a .500magnum revolver. I am only interested in these two caliber configurations.

Since the closest choice is a 9mm SC, that's what I had to vote for, but not what I carry. Small, easy to carry/conceal in a variety of ways and I shoot it well.

Of those choices I would carry the 9mm primarily, and the snubbie when I felt the 9mm was not suited for the carry method at hand.

+1 on XD9SC.. but biased because it is what I carry.

I would not feel bad with the 357 either.

I picked 9mm semiauto but the ideal carry weapon is a mystical creature.

Some claim it exists but I feel a carry weapon is much more of a preference than it is any one perfect gun, to think that there is any 'one size fits all' ideal carry weapon is kinda short sighted.

I have a .38 SW airweight pocketgaurd. press the triger 5 times, it fires 5 times. carry it in your pocket with your favorite +P self defense loads.
