that is sweet.
What model is that and what did it run you? IM still nervous about keeping a revolver in a "inside the waist" holster. I have this bad habbit of thinking revolvers are just gonna snag and go off. |

Any 9mm you feel comfortable with. Gives a good compromise between size, proven effectiveness, controllability, weight, and capacity.

I like my S&W 642 airweight [DA only] small enough to carry, easy to shoot and you don't even have to pull it out of your pocket to fire it! you look like your not a threat when you have your hands in your pockets ....but little do the bad guys know you have a gun pointed at them with your finger on the trigger! plus I like to load and carry full wad cutters loaded +P backwards loaded close up very nasty fragmentation! plus I carry a speed loader loaded with FMJ just because I don't want lead to leach off into my pocket and in my skin on my leg! I beleave what the late great Jeff Cooper[1920-2006] use to say he said "most gunfights happen in shouting range" if you can hit your mark in that range you'll be good!

I like to carry an auto mainly because I can reload one with another magazine faster than I can a revolver.

I am much more accurate with my XD9, I carry it (IWB) during the cooler months, under a jacket or top-shirt. Due to the shorter day-light hours in Winter time, I feel more confident with the more accurate weapon. I consider the S&W a great "OH $HIT" weapon, not a target pistol! P.S. It only weighs 17.2oz., fully loaded! Last edited by Edubya; 03-19-2008 at 09:48 AM. |

I also run, mtb bike, etc., and I don't know about you, but I've crashed before while riding. Then when I got home and took my 9mm semi-auto out of my Camelbak Goblin, the mag was loose. Appears my impact engaged the mag release. So that would've sucked if I really needed the gun *after* I crashed. Go with the revolver for your purposes stated above. Otherwise for normal everday carry, 9mm semi-auto.

a revolver is about as reliable as you can get.
I'm looking into a Ruger SP-101 in .357. However, they do make a 9mm model as well. It's a solid gun and not uncomfortable to fire hot .357 loads in (i can't say that for an Untraweight)

I went to the range at lunch time today, fired 30 rounds of my .38+P through my S&W 642, for the practice. With double taps being the normal, and as fast as a smooth draw from the pocket holster as possible, from 3yds. All thirty-rounds were inside of 8". I've had the snubbie for less than a month! How much better will I get after three months? Depends on how seriously I train. How will I react in an emergency situation? Depends on how seriously I train, and how confident I am in taking the BG out!
