do you love your IT guy/dept??
Obviously I don't mean "love" in the homosexual way.
But do you really like or appreciate your IT department? Have they done anything above-and-beyond your expectations, or have they done something just for you? ... Or are they totally a waste of time and budget, or do you know more than they do? Let's hear what you think of your IT guy/department!!! I'll start: I totally love mine!!! Our IT department, which is ONE guy for 9 offices around the Country, is simply awesome. He's a "hacker" in every sense of the word. His knowledge far exceeds everything I could think of. He builds super computers in his sleep, can speak to you in binary (or hexidecimal), and used to wallpaper his house w/ printouts of code! Our IT guy here fixes our personal computers, too. My (at the time) new computer kept rebooting after being on for just a little while. Turns out the CPU fan wasn't working to keep the CPU under normal operating temps. He got me a new fan/heatsink, installed it, and didn't charge me a dime. He's also given me a 120GB hard drive for free for my HOME computer. And just today he dropped off a nVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 ULTRA 128MB video card for my home computer, too (so I can play my games BETTER). This guy ROCKS!!! So, let's hear about your IT guy/gal/dept!!!

My 1150 users hate me. You will find few that love me.
Funny. I just got done installing 5 new web servers, and came back to my desk and saw this thread. LOL

I am the "IT Department" for a few small companies. I don't much care if they like me, as long as they keep paying me.
As it works out... They do seem to like me, though. |

Mine's great. I called the guy up while I was on a service call, having some trouble with my pda. Forgot that there's a time difference for him, and it was 11pm his time. Guy was totally cool about it, walked me through it, and had my problem fixed in 5 minutes.

I work in the IT department for a University, but I am not in support. I do web and database systems development. I would honestly say that for a school our IT dept is very good.

I'm also in my companies IT dept. The few users who know how to use the system, the ones who don't treat us like the janitor, and the ones who know how to get lots of mileage out of us probably like us a little.

My company has 20,000 users (IDs) and there are 300 IT employees that take care of all of it covering the major part of the state.
Awesome customer service and followthrough. Yea, I'm part of it!

Nice to see other IT people here - I'm and Exchange Administrator, so these days, I don't really see people - I deal with the high level end of things - it's nice! Back in the day, I used to do helpdesk / desktop support, and I think that most people liked me - the ones that didn't like me because I didn't bend the rules for them...

A good IT department is often HIGHLY underrated in the business world. I'm not in IT at my company but understand they keep the company running for me to do my job efficiently.
