What do LEOs think about armed citizens/armed students?

Question for those of you who are LEOs: What do you think about armed citizens in general? What about armed students on college campuses?

The reason I ask this is because Arizona is attempting to pass Senate Bill 1214, which would legalize carry of guns by students with CCW permits (such as myself). This new bill has been shot down by the police chiefs at all of the state's universities, the Arizona Fraternal Order of Police, the Arizona Association of Police Chiefs, the Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Arizona Highway Patrol Association saying that students brandishing guns will make it more difficult for police to identify the true gunman. My answer to this is: By the time you arrive on scene, hopefully my gun will be cooling off back in my holster, where it should be.

Before I go on a long rant about this subject, and how the new AR15's the state just received for their officers ($700 bushmasters) is not going to help a damn bit when the real issue is RESPONSE TIME, I want to hear what other LEOs think.

My opinion: this is not the last of the shootings we will see, and psychologically I think gunmen will try to out do each other. This is why the NIU shooter used a 12ga shotgun. After 48 rounds he only hit 22 individuals. Do not take me wrong, it's obviously a good thing he didn't injure more, but a 50% shot-to-hit ratio is piss poor at best. I sure hope my shots on him are better than that.

What will happen when a gunman brings in an class 3 NFA fully-automatic weapon if they were able to get their hands on one?

Any LEOs from Arizona here? That would be great to discuss this with you.

Read my avatar. This is how I believe.

"Students" isn't the correct term and is why these are failing.

"Licensed individuals who are allowed to carry in their state" is the correct term.

So NO. Not all students should be allowed to carry.

I voted yes because I would carry in school if my state and school allowed me to.

As an LEO, I feel that the only place a legally armed individual should not be allowed to carry is in court. Emotions just run way to high there.

What I tell people is that from the point you call 911 to the time we (the police) get on scene you are ultimately responsible for your safety. Once a person calls 911 they should resist by all means necessary (a kick in the nuts, a butter knife in the throat, a well placed shot to the chest, well you get the picture). I have gone on calls where the victim became the victor simply by fighting back thus saving life and limb. Having an armed populace is not a bad thing. As citizens of this country we are charged with the responsibilty to actively participate (in this case its defense) in the system.

So NO ONE yet has voted "no". It doesn't make sense. If all you LEOs are OK, and even encourage CCWs, then why would the police chiefs at all of the state's universities, the Arizona Fraternal Order of Police, the Arizona Association of Police Chiefs, the Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Arizona Highway Patrol Association ALL make public statements AGAINST the new bill?

+1

Chiefs are guys who didn't like being cops...so they became administrators.
