I voted other. I like a hand held flashlight. Not a big fan of having to point a loaded firearm at every single thing to identify it. Not to mention the flashlight has so many other uses, mine sits right on my nightstand at night, and into the pocket during the day. If you have kids, consider pointing a loaded gun at them and their friends in the middle of the night when they're having a slumber party and you're investigating that noise you heard.

You don't have to use the "hot spot" in the middle of the flashlights beam to look around at everything. Use the "corona" of the beam to look at stuff, then you aren't pointing it at everything you shine the light at.

The TLR-1 is great. I love mine. I have seen deals as cheap as $80.

I have the M3X on my duty weapon that I carry at work. I am thinking about switching to the SSL 1 (beucase it will fit the same holsters I have) becuase LED is the way to go.
I will forever avoid screw mount tac lights (like the TLR) as I have seen them fly off when drawn from the holster too many times. If you check it like you should (every day) it wouldnt be a problem. But they do vibrate loose when shooting (lots of rounds). All of the guys I know that cary the TLR's had to loc-tite them to keep them from unscrewing. And have to constantly re-check them. As for a seporarte light. Allways a good idea to have a second light. (one is none and two is one). But I am a firm beliver in the weapon mounted light. It is a much more secure feeling to have somone at gunpoint with the light on and still be able to key the mic (or use a phone to call 911) |
