This thread could go on forever with people's opinion on the third option, but in the spirit of "either / or", I would take the AR.

My G3 hasn't seen the light of day in nearly a year. Too costly to shoot.

At nearly 54.5 cents a round, replacement cost, I find myself saying the following with each shot " 50 cents, a dollar, a buck fifty, two bucks". By the time I get to the end of a 20 round mag I am up to $10.00. Ouch. I will save the G3 for the zombies. Luckily, I bought tons of South African when it was $29.00 for battle packs.

I will stick with the relatively cheap 7.62 x 39. Just bought another 3000 rounds today!

i picked the AR15, get a gas piston one and you have as reliable a weapon as an AK, lighter, and more options availability.

Normally I would say AR-15. But lately... I have been tempted by the fruit of another!

I vote a nicer, higher end AK like an Arsenal,Vector, and Henderson Defense.

The AK in either 7.62 or 5.45 will be alot cheaper to shoot, a case of wolf MC 7.62 at AIM is 169. So if you want to shoot alot... go AK.
