Yeah,
I'm currently trying to "negotiate" the purchase with my wife. Apparently, a new garage door, new gutters, and new water heater currently have a higher priority.

Hey I went with other because I realize you intend to place said item on a shelf and admire it
So, The EBR, uhm AR, yea it looks cool on the mantle. Then again that AK (hey it has furniture that matches my decor) what a sweet piece of wood. But oh, that wonderful shotgun! Now your talking choices. Wood or plastic, natural or black. 5.56mm(.223) vs 7.62mm(.299) vs 18.5mm (.729) OK just call it a 12 guage Bigger is better! Right? In case you decide to do more than admire your purchase ......................... When the American GIs first experienced its awesome firepower in the jungles of Vietnam they knew that their rifles were no match. ..................... Found it Yep, a 12 guage, then whatever your <STRIKE>heart</STRIKE> wallet desires

AR then Shotty. But that's just me.
AR would be for range / fun time out in the middle of no where. Shotgun mostly for home defense, and since i have my XD that is just kind of a redundancy for me. |

Cool with that and just being a smart ass today. Sorry!
But really, unless you need to reach out and touch someone, a 12 is hard to beat.

Just thinking that this may be the only rifle I'll be able to afford from now until we may not be able to buy them anymore, or worse.

I think I WILL be getting a shotty and??????
It is my understanding that an AR can put some lead out with greater manageability.
The AK FA becomes spray-and-pray. I have shot an AR FA but have only shot an AK Semi-auto. At any rate, it may behoove me to have a more powerful round for SHTF. Thoughts?

Pharmakon,
It was hiding in a link I posted earlier, but read this. The Great 21st Century Rifle Controversy It's really a long read, but has some good comments/thoughts on what is suitable in various situations. Also, I hear you on the getting something while it's still legal aspect of your next purchase. Perhaps a 12 guage and an AR lower before the next ban. Then you can piece together exactly what you want over time. IMO, out of the three you listed, the AK will be the first to be made illegal if IT ever happens. Quote:
If I were to do it over again, I'd seriously consider this setup. It's very versatile.
