I am very interested in the XD series of guns and am a newly licensed concealed carrier! Do you guys recommend the .45ACP or the XD9? I want a compact as it will be concealed and prefer the 4" to the 3". Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks guys!
And just for a little background on myself: I have been shooting for years so I am not a novice but am definately not a pro. Thanks again, guys! |

uh oh, a caliber debate.
Thats a big question to ask. Presumably it depends on your body size, hand size, intended use, intended firearm weight, and overall preference. In general, I prefer the .45ACP cartridge to 9mm. But I would not hesitate to trust my life to a 9mm handgun (and I do quite often, in my Sig 226), and with the extra capacity and the ease of carrying a subcompact I would say that as a first concealed carry gun the 3" 9mm would be a spectacular choice. - Ryan

I have a 45compact and a 9mm sub compact, both xd's and i carry the 45 90% of the time. I have even thought about selling the sc9mm. The 45 compact conceals pretty much just as well as the sc9mm in the clothes i normally wear.
I'd think that the full sized 9mm might be harder to conceal due to the full sized grip. I'd go to a shop with a holster and try em both and ask the guys at the shop if they'd call the cops on you if they were a scared old lady. As for effectiveness, i think either caliber would work fine. |

If you're set on getting a 4" then you might as well get the compact XD45 since it will just about the same size as the 9mm.

If you get the 9, it will be cheap to practice with and a good gun for carry, as well. You will be able to carry more rds if you don't live in Cal.

I use both..... Mostly my 9mm. When going for crowded areas I use my 9mm... at home it's my 45 on the bedside.
