What do you think is causing the recent rash of public shootings? (Potentially PV)

So here it is.

What do you think the contributing factors are to the recent rash of school/mall/church shootings?

I know the media is going to pin it on the availability of guns. I don't agree with that at all, but I'm interested in the consensus opinion here.

I guess I'm the first "other."
I would say it's bad parenting with a mentally weak and emotionally unstable child + media coverage.
Not that having news coverage of such events is wrong, but it's how they cover it. It's too ratings based. I don't think it's the news anchors themselves, but rather the networks.

Also, I don't believe that knowing the majority of the citizens walk around unarmed affects their decision to take human lives, they've resolved to end their own lives; or at least know that their death in this situation would be inevitable anyway. It does matter greatly to us as potential victims of these people in how quickly a situation is ended, or better averted, and how many deaths can be prevented in doing so.

I'll think more on this.

socially retarded kids + insufficient parental support

I believe the former is also a by-product of the latter.

Other: Man's inherent evil, do good humanist fools that think "laws" protect, cowardice on the part of people asking "permission" to protect their lives, and obedience to unconstitutional laws that command folks to disarm in certain places, which we now know are "victim disarmament zones". Our founders would laugh at the capons that now call themselves men and yet cower behind their "protectors" who they have given the power of life and death over them. The founders knew, to a man, that God was their protector, not my opinion, read their writings. Yeah, they where weak, delusional Christians who needed a crutch. Even Franklin, who wasn't a Christian asked for prayer when the Constitutional Convention was being written in Philadelphia for God's help.

I'd say it is a combination of all of the above.

I voted "Other" because I believe it is a fair combination of all EXCEPT for the 'availability of guns' line...

Kids that have not been parented are truly a problem in society these days.

The media does us no favors in their coverage of this...guns are tools people! It is the madman pulling the trigger that is the one causing that tool to work...figure it out, dammit...(tools, they're tools themselves...) (Rant off)...where's my coffee!

I picked Media coverage and Parenting.

I think parenting probably plays the biggest role.

Availiability and gaming may play a small part, much like all the choices, but I think Media and Parent are the major ones.

Media coverage definately plays the biggest role. After that, it comes down to a lack of parenting, and even then it seems these parents do it wrong. When nothing is ever your fault, then you are free to do anything, like murder a dozen or so people.
