Now that sounds like a professional opinion!!

SgtWKPII -

Is it true that our armed forces can't use hollowpoint rounds in times of war? Or am I crazy/lied to?

For everyone else:

I always heard that 124gr/147gr hydrashocks were one of the best in 9mm? Has there been significant proof otherwise? Also... then becomes the questions: Should I go in my gun cabinet and switch out my hydrashocks with my pack of gold dots? ha.

And don't give me the big speech on how 9mm sucks. I have too much money sank into this gun and I like it too much to buy a new one so blah.

As far as I know we cannot use them. From what I have heard Geneva banned any type of expanding ammunition.

We are issued ball ammo only.

Here is a website I have found, but dont believe everything you read on the internet.

It is true that the armed forces cannot use "Expanding" ammunition. Hollow point is not an exclusive name anymore considering there is some HP ammo that doesn't expand.

As far as 124/147gr hydrashoks go...

There is a 124 in this photo.

The Hydrashok bullet design is outdated and made of inferior materials. it has to be pushed to +P+ levels to expand reliably. There are plenty of newer bullet designs out now that work much better at slower speeds. Search the net there are plenty of articles on the Hydrashoks performance vs other loadings in this caliber.

By outdated he means that newer and better designs have come along since the hydra-shok.

Didn't know there was velocity difference from an open bolt. I guess a 9mm traveling 1150fps from a closed bolt Uzi would travel how fast from an open bolt?? Barrel length determines velocity, not the bolt. the open bolt just means that the bolt and carrier are the same unit, along with the firing pin.... I know that chrono'd rounds from a real PPSh-41 (open bolt war trophy), Yugo surplus 7.62x25 at 1645fps from a 10" barrel matched Jim's (at MarStar-the only reason I envy Canada-make any military 'rifle' semi auto, thats it) semi auto version at 1645fps with a 10" barrel-closed bolt.....
