could somebody take it easy on a gun newbie and try to sum up these posts for me? HST and Gold Dots are both good rounds.

Regarding short barrel... powder burns and propels the bullet as it goes down the barrel. The shorter the barrel the less time the powder has to burn. This does not allow the development of maximum propulsion since the bullet leaves the barrel earlier while powder is still burning and thus wasted. So a bullet shot from a 2" barrel gun will not have the same velocity and energy as one shot from a 5" barrel all other things being equal. Some manufacturers of ammo will use faster burning powder to develop higher propulsive force in shorter barreled guns.

I've learned a lot as well...think I'll need to re-read some of the posts...guy at a local range said he was going to go out and try out some different kinds of self defense ammo in various calibers at a buddies ranch, so I'm hoping to go back sometime to pick his brain and see what he found out...

Does anyone have a picture or information on the expansion of Black Hills JHP ammo? I have been searching for it but have came across nothing so far.
