Nah it's all good. Just called my local gun shop and they will have an answer tomorrow. Scott the guy that I talked to said that he has one of the magazines at home that has what HST stands for in there so I'll call tomorrow to find out.
Btw, SgtWKPII no offense on my previous post I just really wanted the answer and acronym.com did not suffice.

No doubt.. Even if HST does not mean anything which I doubt, I'll have no problem but it would seem pretty stupid on Federals part to have an acronym w/ no meaning...

wow...ok...after reading through most of these posts, I'm still really confused about what's a good self defense round for 9mm...

could somebody take it easy on a gun newbie and try to sum up these posts for me? I have an XD9 service and was wondering what type of self defense round to get that would work well in the 4in weapon...from what I gather, normal federal hydroshoks don't expand well, and apparently Federal HST is the way to go...but I've also seen some speer gold dot 124gr +P "short barrel" and have no idea what "short barrel" means and how its different from normal gold dot 124gr +p...

A good self-defense round in 9mm is whatever your gun will feed reliably and you can shoot well.

The FBI states that any ammunition that will not reliably penetrate 12" does not have enough penetration, so be sure to use full power, +P or +P+ ammo and no low power target rounds. Expanding bullets are good because it maximizes the wound channel and delivers the most energy to the target.

Building on that you have to also consider that some ammo is illegal in certain states and that might limit you. For example, NJ has a no hollow point ammo law. So that means that Federal HST, Speer Gold Dots and the like are automatically out. However, Federal Expanding Full Metal Jacket (EFMJ) is an option. Most HP ammo will do the job, some are just better than others. Better is a subjective term though.

Short barrel refers to sub-compact pistols with barrels of 3" or less.

Ammo choices are personal and all we can do is make a few suggestions to you about our favorite brand. You have to decide and if you're not comfortable betting your life on your ammo choice, then you have the wrong ammo. And don't let price be a factor. Ammo that costs $1 or more per round is worth it if it works as advertised when your life is on the line

I hope that helps.

OK

From what I can gather. In an XD9SC I think I am going to go with 124 or 147gr +P Federal HST.

Those pictures are down right impressive. I trust my hydra shocks I have now and I realize that situational awareness and shot placement are about a trillion times more important than the round you use, but like it has been said; The key to CCW is full CONFIDENCE in your weapon and abilities!!! (Even if that confidence is based on assumptions!)

Before I got all over town... Do any of our forum sponsors have them for sale???

Did you actually read what I posted? The ATK Rep said that Federal had kicked around some names for what it stood for but rejected them all because they didn't want to impair sales of their other ammo lines.
