Will the XD Become an Issued Firearm?
Will the XD eventually get a permanent spot in police departments or military?
Could it replace the Glock in Depts. and the Beretta in the Military? Opinions Wanted! Why or Why Not! |

The XD has become an issue or authorized weapon for several LE agencies.
The US military won't adopt it because hey have an aversion to plastic framed pistols and the fact that there is no de-cocker or external safety is a real problem for the military.

Military, no. LE, yes. Military won't go XD for reasons stated above. LE is going XD for those same reasons.

is it true that springfield isnt trying to get LE sales? i know glock bends over for the police to sell them pistols with super cheap prices and promises. but they are selling so many why worry about it.maybe when everyone is armed with an XD they will focus on those LE sales

need a manual safe
if the army would get over the lack of a manual safe I bet XD would make a pistol with a metal frame. I am Army and I love th XD it out GLOCKS THE GLOCK and makes the berreta a door stop. I also know a few LE that have been issued the XD and they love it..

Making it a metal framed pistol would be counter productive at least in my opinion. The M9 is already a doorstop. Sometimes I think ours have bent barrels they shoot so damn crooked. The original 1911 design didn't have a grip safety but Browning designed one in when the military said they wouldn't buy it without some kind of extra safety. I don't think any of us that are currently in will ever be issued a polymer framed pistol let alone one without some kind of manual safety. Glock MIGHT have a snowball's chance during a cool summer day if they would produce a US MIL. specific G17 with a manual safety but even then I doubt it. The brass dosen't trust us enough to handle a pistol without a mechanical safety.
Would I love to see us get rid of the M9......you bet your ass I would, I wouldn't care if we used SIGs or whatever else as long as we can get rid of those POSes. But what I want and what the military does seems to be about as far apart as the Sun and Pluto. disclaimer-I have nothing against Barreta, but the M9 sucks. A lot of this has to do with the fact they are an issued weapon and used by everyone and they get shot out quickly. Also most armories really don't care about them as they aren't primary weapons by any means.

I read somewhere that the worst thing that happened to the XD was the introduction of the S&W M&P series. I dunno though, I love my XD and have never handled an M&P.

In my mind, the XD is simple and beautiful because of that simplicity.
