My XD SC needs company
So I have a 9mm XD SC that I really like. I plan on using this as my CCW piece.
Looking to to get another XD soon, I was thinking either a 9mm Service or Tactical, but am open to other suggestions, too. Would like to get some mods for the new XD, like a DGR, trigger job, etc. I was kind of thinking of staying with 9mm, so that I could use the same mags, ammo, etc. Not interested in reloading at this time, so keep that in mind.

I would go with the .40S&W Service. Why, you ask. The 9 and the 40 cost the same and are very close to the same weight. I feel that The 40 will produce a bigger knock down punch then the 9 with a good "self defence bullet." The cost of ammo is close between the two rounds. And, it's a blast to shoot.

It sounds like you want a range gun to customize and perhaps learn to shoot the wings off of a fly. You might as well go for the 9mm tactical. Easy to shoot, a noticeable step up in accuracy from the subcompact, and low ammo cost. A case could be made for a .40 or .45 if this is going to double as a home defense gun, but you didn't mention it.
