XD9 Service. Just got it first of year as replacement for cracked slide ported XD9 Service I bought in July. The ported had no more than 400 rounds before it cracked near the front sight. Thanks to the internet and this great site, I knew to expect it and was on the lookout for it.
SA was great and replaced in a month with non-ported (if they had not honored my request of a non-ported I would have sold the replacement as new and got something else). Thankfully, I got the non-ported as I really like the XD (even after getting my 92FS) and carried it SOB today to work. I am not a die-hard XD fan so I am not likely to own a second one. I currently find myself needing a sub-compact and it will definitely be a PX4 as I find it to be the most aesthetically pleasing sub-compact design out there (insofar as everything about it is proportional--I have yet to see any sub-compact that does not look as if the grip was an afterthought or cut-down from the full-size version; woefully, that includes the Walther P99). I still haven't carried the XD with a round chambered; conversely, I don't carry the 92 without a round chambered (must be the safety that makes me feel that way). I am thinking of carrying the XD with a snap cap chambered and the XD cocked to get used to it for a while (thanks to helpful ideas here). The first time I saw the XD (brother-in-laws'), I knew I wanted it as my first pistol. I really wanted the Walther P99 as my third gun and had no intentions of buying more than one from any manufacturer until Beretta went and designed the PX4 sub-compact. I would still consider an XD SC, but it would have to be at least $150 less than the Beretta. One thing I am surprised at is this rapid price increases in the XDs compared to Glock and Beretta prices. They certainly are getting popular. Well wishes to all of you fellow XD fans. And you lucky 45 cal owners--if only I could afford to practice with that ammo. Shoot, I just might start looking at a 45 for carry when I get the house paid off!

I have two XDs, one a sub compact, one a tactical model, both in 9mm. I purchased the XDSC first. It's my carry gun and I did not want a small gun with heavy recoil. The XD fits my carry needs very well. It's small, powerful enough for my needs, carries more rounds than a comparably sized guns in larger calibers and is accurate enough to be useful even at longer defensive range.
I bought the tactical gun for USPSA competition in the Production division. Since everything in USPSA Production is scored as minor caliber, there's no incentive to shoot a larger caliber gun in that division. Low recoil and an accurate gun are part of the equation for effectively shooting quickly. While I bought 9mm guns for specific purposes, that does not mean I don't appreciate the utility of other calibers. For USPSA Single Stack and Limited 10, I also shoot a .40 caliber Kimber, .45 Caliber Gold Cup and a 10MM Colt Delta Elite. In Single Stack and Limited divisions, there is a scoring advantage to shooting major calibers. The 10mm was originally purchased, and is still sometimes used, as a woods gun, something powerful enough to handle anything I might need while in the Everglades. I'm a real fan of .40 caliber for defense, for those that can conceal a pistol large enough to make it controllable, but the shorts and T shirt that I wear most of the year doesn't do a good job of covering a full sized 1911.
