I'm heading to the regional acadamy in 60 days. I'll need to supply my own gear, including pistol. Caliber choices are 9, 40 &45. I own pistols in all those calibers, but none of mine are on the approved list (XD=NoGo, 1911=NoGo
All feedback is welcome!

P226 has my vote
Two of our local agencies (Orlando, Winter Park) carry the P226 in 9mm. (I'm not a cop, just a curious citizen). I have a P226 and a XD9SC and the P226 fits my hand better than the Glock.
Too bad the XD isn't on the approved list! |

Next to the XD, I think the p226 is one of the finest guns made. Having said that...you cannot go wrong with any of those sigs.

Any of the SIGs are a good choice. It's weird with the SIGs because their magazine capacities are sort of low compared to other pistols out there, but they're solid and reliable guns. The 2022 will probably be easier on your wallet, and it's lighter than the others because of the polymer frame.
What kind of trigger does it have to be? Double-action-only? If you don't have to have a DAO trigger, I suggest a DA/SA or DAK. Hundreds of rounds per day at the academy with a heavy DAO trigger will kick your ass.

I dont own a 226 but I own 2-229's and a 2340 and I chose 226. I think if I was carrying a gun exposed, I would opt for the inch longer barrel that the 226 offers.

The Sig 226 was the first pistol I owned. I looooved it... especially since that was at the height of the "226 is the world's premier 9mm" craze of 1992. I sold it and have regretted it ever since. Of course I have a XD and am incredibly impressed with it, but the 226 just exudes European over-engineering.

I prefer Glock to Sig. I have owned both and sigs are good guns. However I have come to hate DA SA guns. The first shot slows you down if your good and if your not most put it in the dirt. The sig also has a high bore axis which magnifies muzzle flip. Also Sigs are no where near as durable as glocks. If you must get the sig get the 226.

The alluminum framed models will crack their frames if you shoot them enough usually between 25000 and 50000 rounds. The DA first shot trigger pull has a lot to be desired. Its not so good. Usually its around 12 pounds with some stacking unless you get trigger work done. Another pet peeve is the long trigger reset in single action mode. If your an XD shooter you will find that fine but as a 1911 and Glock shooter its unacceptable. Sigs are an excellent DA pistol. I just don't like DA guns anymore. Also the newer sigs comming out lately have been getting a lot of complaints for reliablity issues. Not sure why. I do know its the USA made sigs that are getting the complaints. Pat
