Mmm....probably the $100 worth of ammo I picked up for a Saturday shoot with some friends. She didn't ask, I didn't tell. What can I say...I'm a lightweight.

Any large purchases (over $500), I tend to give her a courtesy call. She understands that it's not so much to get her approval, but to let her know that I'm making a larger purchase as a courtesy...that way she can keep the books balanced. She does the same with me, but usually she'll call me if the amount is over $100.

We discuss all monetary expenditures above $50. Our income = our income... unlike some people I know where the husband and wife keep their money/paychecks in seperate accounts, and they divvy up the household expenditures as if they were roommates!?!?! C'mon now....
We discuss our expenses out of love, courtesy and respect for each other...and yes, as the head of the household, I take care of all our financials. She has the awesome responsibility to be my wife as well as a mother to our two young boys...that in it of itself is enough (in my eyes) and I will not shy from taking on the responsibility to lead and run my home....whatever it takes That is not to say that she is not a strong woman...she is (plenty of men, or should I say MALES, have shied away from her for the fact she is not afraid to stand up for herself...I love it! )
Besides, over the course of our dating years (5yrs) and now married years (4yrs), she has seen me buy stuff which she might not have "approved" of, e.g. cars, car parts, go-fast-car-toys, ..., and ALWAYS turn them around for profit of some sort, all of which I pass onto her, and go right back around, reinvest that into another project, have fun with it, and turn it around again...

Hopefully this isn't anyone out there.

My wife and I keep our finances separate. We split the bills. As long as I pay the bill I'm responsible for, I can buy anything I want.

We do have the same bank. I can look at her spending and vise/versa. As a courtesy, we discuss big ticket items and expenditures. Usually over $100.

An example. I sold a pistol to finance a AR lower(Stag w/A2 stock). My tax refund will finance the upper.
My stuff
My tax refund
She doesn't have a say. I informed her as a courtesy.
(FWIW. The AR upper will be a CMMG mid-length A3 18" barrel 1/8 twist)

This system is a holdover from when we were living in sin. Not having a joint account means one less thing to fight over.
Trust me, "The Imperial Red-Headed Scorpio" doesn't need much of a reason to start WWIII.
