They're fun to shoot, cheap, highly mod-able and are a great tool to introduce new shooters to the fun of shooting!

I noticed you did not have a long gun on the list. SKS and 30-30 are great guns but not suitable for anything over 150yrds. I think you need something that will "reach out and touch something/body." My suggestion; Ruger 77 or a Remington 700. Take your choice of calibers...30-06, 270, 308, 25-06, all good choices.
