I guess it would depend on when it happened. If the SC was out by the time I could buy another gun, I might just go the SC route. Then again, I might get the 4" Compact as discussed above, because it'd be fine for carry during the winter up here, and get something like a PT745 for summer... Lots of options... -l

I am about to become a first time XD buyer. I have been eying the XD45 service model and than ran across a post about the compact model. The compact looks to be just the ticket for my needs. I will be going to a gun show in a week and a half and hope to fondle one their. If it feels good in hand I will be purchasing one. If I owned a service model I don't think I would change to a compact for the small savings in grip length.

I don't carry, so I really like my service .45 the way it is.

The compact is not really that much smaller. The handle is like an inch shorter and so is the barrel. I already have the XD 45 service, so won't be buying the compact. I would have bought the compact if it had been out over the service. So I'm like many other waiting for the SC. I don't really have any troubling concealing my service, just wear a baggy shirt or jacket and I'm good to go.
It's coming! Just have to be patient. SA is not going to be coming out with the SC any time soon, being that they just released the compact. They'll make us wait in hopes that most will buy the compact, and then once the demand has fallen, they'll come out with the SC. Sells tatic, I gaurantee one is in the making though |

The compact is in response to the large number of complaints about the length of the XD45 grip. It was a very easy change to make, so they did it first. The SC (which I think is silly for a double-stack 45, but that's JMO) will take alot more engineering and therefore it will come later. That's just reality.

I sold my Service and picked up a Compact model. It makes all the difference, at least for me for CCW. Plus, I have the option of using the 13rnd mag when wearing heavier clothing.
I may be interested in an SC model, if SA works out the bugs for a short barreled .45 better than they ever did with their SA Micro .45 1911. If they leave it with a 4" barrel, well..maybe... But then, an XD45SC would be chopped down to ~7rnds, if you take off another 0.5" which gives you a 2-finger grip for a .45.... maybe...

I know a lot of folks had their hearts set on an SC, but it seems to me that there is a pretty decent selection of .45s out there on the mini side. Granted, they aren't XD's, but I think this was a good move on Springfield's part. Hopefully all of you folks jonesing for an SC won't have too much longer to wait.
