Two, if it was a situation where I want to draw but stay un-noticed. Say you're at McDonald's sitting at a table eating. BG comes in and holds up the counter. I am not going to get up and engage, but I would draw and keep the gun under the table out of sight. Depending on the proximity of my table and the counter, I don't want the BG to hear the slide.

Three, if I am incapacitated for some reason, I want my wife to able to use the gun, and she doesn't have the grip strength to chamber a round.

Finally, I like to keep my gun "hot" at all times for mental training. I know that my gun is always loaded and it reminds me to treat every other gun the same way. It's kind of a habit former for me.
Ditto - well put

Rule #1 All Guns are ALWAYS LOADED. Put a round in the chamber. The last thing you want to be thinking about is how long it's going to take to draw, rack and shoot. Even if the guy has a knife at 21 feet he will be able to cut you before you get the gun loaded and first round fired.

I always carry with a round in the chamber.

I've been carrying a gun concealed every day for over 17 years and have always had a round in the chamber. If the gun is not safe to carry with a round in the chamber then its not a good carry gun.

All my training has been done with a round in the chamber. I don't think anyone could have passed the final shooting tests without a round in the chamber. Most of the timed drills there is not enough time to rack the slide after drawing and still hitting a A zone shot within the time allowed.

85% of the time it's 5 rounds in the cylinder (5-shot j-frame).

10% of the time it's with one in the pipe and 16 in the magazine (xd service).

5% of the time I'm at the post office or at a bar (the post office thing is a stupid law but I'm not going to commit a felony just to run in for some stamps).

Holy ready-to-rock Batman, I think most everyone agrees on somethiing this time!

Add me to the list. Either 13 plus one in the pipe on the XD or cocked and locked with the 1911.

Nobody really knows if that's true or not. I don't go to the post office much but when I do I'm packing. Better to break a law and live than obey a law and die.

Now I will say when I carried a Glock 26 9mm sub, I carried it without a round in the chamber. I then switched over to a S&W 642 .38 Rev. I felt I needed to be able to re-load quick and wanted an auto. I’m trying the XD-40 sub-compact. I carry it with a round in the chamber due to the grip safety.

Just got me a Comp-tac Pro Undercover and love it. I carry in my pocket with a holster and in the Comp-tac. So far really love the little gun.

+1

I always carry round in the chamber, not for the speed of not having to rack the slide, because I don't want to have to think about that step. If I make the decision to pull the weapon I want it ready to fire, all I want to have to contend with is target acquisition.

I always load to shoot. i have been doing a lot of Competition pistol lately and I am getting very comfortable carrying. One time I even forgot I was carrying. Haugen Handgun Leather is the best. I carry the XD9tac but I have a holster for the service. I need to get the right one for the job so it covers the entire gun. Summer carry is a Kahr P45 in a pocket holster, although I might be getting a better IWB for it one of these days.
