I'm not sure about that caliber (never saw it before), but I do know that Savage Arms has a reputation of very high accuracy for the price right out of the box. You might check out their forum:

http://www.savageshooters.net/SavageForum/

and read up on their accuracy. I'm sure there's something on there for the caliber you mention. Good luck.

Personally, I can vouch for Savage's accuracy. I own a Mark II-F, and it's freakin' awesome! A great little rifle for the price and performance straight out of the box.

Even if the assumption is made that the comparison is amongst magazine (either internal or detachable) fed bolt-actions, Remington, Ruger, and Savage each offer an assortment of either models or sub-models complicating direct comparison. While I do not have direct experience with the .308's little brother (.243), I don't think that there is a bad call amongst the three manufacturers. I had a couple of minor QC problems (rear sling stud never installed, package with scope not boresighted) with a Savage chambered in .270 a few years ago, however, they did not effect accuracy and were resolved with relative ease.

Thomson Center Encore

I bought an Thomson Center Encore last year in the .243 caliber and I think it is one of the best guns I have. I have it in the 15 inch barrel set up for handgun hunting. It's a single shot but a lot of fun to shoot.

I've got a Remington semi-auto in 243 that is a shooting machine. I can't believe how accurate it is. Thompson Center Encore's have a good reputation for accuracy but I have heard the trigger is not that good. I don't have any personal experiences with them to back that up, just what I've heard. Their versality is certainly a consideration. Having said that, I'd go with the Savage. The bolt actions are tough to beat for out of the box accuracy, the price is right and their Accutrigger is the ticket.

I used to have a Remington 700BDL in 6mm Rem that had been accurized by Kleingunther that with the right loads would shoot a hair over a half inch at 100 yards all day long.

With the wrong loads or rounds, though, I was lucky to keep it on the paper...

It liked Federal Premiums and a handload we had worked up with 100gr Nosler Partitions. Can't recall the powder of choice, it was years ago...

Took more than a few deer with that gun, at ranges up to about 300 yards. Not bad for such a small round, I don't think...
