One eye or two?

I just went to the range today and worked on shooting with both eyes open. Up to now, I only shot with my right and left eye either closed or squinted.

It wasn't much differnt other than keeping focus when your sight picture changes.

For those of you that compete, does it make a differnce if you shoot one eye closed?

It doesn't matter if you close one eye or not. Do what you need to do to see the shot. I use a piece of tape over my left eye to keep from seeing two sight pictures and so do many other shooters who have dominance issues.

Both eyes open seems to work for me.

Like straight black out or somewhat tranlucent? IDPA doesn't frown on this? If this is the case, could one also use two different lenes? I want to wear tint on weak eye and yellow on strong. Would they allow that?

Some use semi-transparent tape. I use a black paster that just blocks the "Extra" front sight because it creates a blind spot and it is not distracting like the semi-transparent is for me.

I tried the darker lenses thing and prescriptions, but the tape has better results and doesn't take away anything. You still have most of the vision from the taped eye, but you only have one sight picture.

Some can see fine with two eyes, because they have a dominant eye, I don't have a dominant and some with cross dominance can switch to the weaker eye by using this method and have good results.

I seem to be ok for a while and then get all cross eyed. takes a mintute to snap out of it. I'll try the tape thing next time.

If I am shooting in a slow-fire, want the X ring type mode I'll shoot with one eye closed. If I am shooting IDPA or Bianchi Cup I'll shoot with both eyes open.

Hello Thomye,

I shoot both eyes open with all of my firearms, the only time I ever close an eye is during the night. I close my weak eye so I can maintain night vision.

Peace
Talon

You're supposed to have your eyes open when you shoot?

I close my left eye, since I'm right eye dominant. I've tried both eyes open, but not had much success. Think I'll try it again as soon as I get my Truglo TFOs on and go to the range.
