I have both and enjoy shooting both. My XD9 SC is up for sale right now simply because I need some cash and it was more about the caliber than the actual gun that sealed my decision about whihc one to sell. Mainly, I have several other guns in 9mm that perform that same duty as my XD. That, and I also have an XD40 Service model so again -- it made sense to stick with .40 as the caliber to keep.

This may not be a very useful post to help you decided, but I guess what I'm trying to say is they are both excellent hands guns and there are likely other factors that should help you make up your mind about which one is right for you.

I like the 9, but I own the 40. Ammo is too expensive.

I have the XD40SC. If I get the chance, I'll trade it for the XD9SC or for an XD Service. It shoots very well, but I can't think of an instance where I could conceal that I couldn't conceal the Service...or my 1911. Mostly, I'm just not sure that the extra whip-snap-cost of the .40 are worth it. If 9mm is good enough for the SAS, it's good enough for me.

I'm for the XD9SC. I don't have a problem with the .40, but 9mm is cheaper for target shooting, and with the +P loads available, much more than enough for a carry weapon. Shot placement is the key.

Well, if you buy for what it is intended, Concealed Carry, you'll probably want a little more stopping power. Otherwise, if its just a mini range range, 9mm to cut cost on ammo.

my 2 cents.

That is what you want SC for(self defence) you a bigger/better/badder round and its the same physical size as the 9mm

You know, this crap happens with in-breeding. You can only hope the unfortunate, screwed up love child would take themselves out of the gene pool when they discover electrical outlets and butter knives or start huffing paint when they're 7 or 8 but every once in a while a truly magnificent specimen makes it to adulthood to display for the world just how freaking stupid they really are.

Hmmm...your sig says dont use anything lower than a .4X but in the "rules of gunfighting" it says

"In ten years nobody will remember the details of caliber, stance, or tactics. They will only remember who lived."

Wouldnt that contradict the .4X verbage? Hmm...
