New Barrel or New Gun ???

I currently have an XD40 Service and an XD40 SubCompact with about a dozen magazines between them. I have put TruGlos on the 4" Service model and Tritiums on the sc. I would like to start shooting IDPA with 9mm and am trying to decide if I should get a 4" conversion barrel and a couple mags for the Service or to get one of the XDm 9mm models. I already have other 9mms, 45's & a 38 Super so it's not like I really need another 9mm.

What are your thoughts and suggestions?
Buy a match barrel or XDm and why?

Another thought would be to change to .357 SIG rather than 9mm. It allows you to have the 9mm bullet and stull use your existing 40 mags.
And if you already reload then its really easy, the only new component you need is brass.

Check the IDPA rules, but I think if you have a XD40 you have to shoot 40s&w. I am not sure, but I don't think conversion barrels are allowed.

I do know that a conversion barrel would not be allowed in Production for IPSC (USPSA).

OH yeah the rules.... This is a non-sanctioned match at the local range where they follow the rules in a more generalized manner. For this game, I would be fine but I know not to do it in an official match.

I have been using both my 38Super and the XD40svc. The 38sup brass is expensive to lose so I try and recover it as much as I can, while the 40 is a tad more expensive to load for -I know, the cost of the barrel alone will buy a lot of components.

357 Sig is an option but similar to the Super in the end and I would have to get a bunch of brass together and then also pick it up afterward.

My other 9s are 3rd gen S&W so the DA/SA triggers are not ideal for competition and my 1911's are dear to my heart but I want to get in some practice using the poly platform. My M&P is a compact also and not as accurate as I would like, so I'm left with the XD which shoots along with the best of them.

Provided the gun is sold from the factory in that caliber then it can be shot in SSP. However since the XD is put into the ESP group that rule doesnt apply anyway. So caliber conversions are gtg. (IDPA)

Thanks for all the votes and replies.

Looks like a couple of great offers timed back to back in the accessories for sale section helped me make up my mind.

For the first go around, I have a barrel and 4 mags coming my way. I will give it a try and if I like it may eventually go for a XDm 5" competition.

In the mean time my Wife is going to get either a XDm 4.5 or a PPQ (so I might be able to borrow one to try). I think she is leaning toward the XDm but she wants to fondle the PPQ first.
