A diesel Ford F-150 or Chevy/GMC 1500...

I would really like my next vehicle to be a diesel and really want a full-size light duty truck. I have always wanted a Jetta TDI, but I think I need something more utilitarian for hauling and towing. Ideally, I would want a 4 door 6.5' bed F-150 with a diesel engine. I am primarily interested in diesel for improved stability during long term storage, increased fuel economy, more torque is always nice, and the relatively easy synthesis of biodiesel when conventional diesel becomes scarce when TSHTF.

Are there any XDTalkers out there who would enjoy the benefits of a diesel light duty full-size truck?

No thanks. I'm not a Dodge fan. You can practically hear every Dodge truck guzzling down fuel just as it idles.

If I were a Dodge fan, I would be interested in a Ram 1500 diesel, which doesn't exist yet, right?

I know it doesn't, but just wanted to see if there are any others interested in the idea of one. It seems that Ford is using fuel price as their "go-no go" on the diesel F-150 project.

nope 2500 or 3500

You get much better mileage with a diesel as long as you don't drive it like a pissed off redneck...low and slow

I don't think they have an F-150 with a diesel engine.

If you want a Ford you should look into the new powerboost engine. It will probably do everything you need it to do, and your maintenence costs should be lower.

1/2 ton truck, aka the 150/1500 cannot support the weight of a diesel...thus the 250/2500 or 350/3500 3/4 to 1 ton truck can.

Yeah, I understand the EcoBoost engine is more fuel efficient, but I am interested in diesel. I can make biodiesel much easier than ethanol, if I had to in a long term shortage situation. Plus diesel stores more stable over the longer term and is much safer to store. I just wish it was an option for American made and marketed full-size light-duty trucks.

If they can put a diesel engine in Volkswagen Jetta, Golf, and Rabbit TDIs, they can engineer one to work in an F-150 or 1500.
