Different carry gun?
Hey guys, I'm just curious as to how many of you carry something different than your XD. I know there's lots, but I'm mainly looking for input from Kel-Tec and Kahr owners. I love my XD, but at my size even the subcompact is a bear to conceal at times. To give you an idea, I'm 5'9" and weigh 130 lbs. No I'm not anorexic either, just mega high metabolism that hasn't slowed down yet. I'm considering a Kahr PM-9 or quite possibly a Kel-tec p3-at. I know these are both smaller guns. I'd like the 9 personally. But is the kahr really worth double (or more) the kel-tec? This may seem like a stupid question, and I've seen the differences in the ballistics of the rounds. I'm not really concerned with capacity or round, more or less which is more reliable and/or overall the better gun. Unfortunately nobody around has a Kahr that I can find and check out for myself. As a last resort, I'm ordering a CTAC to give my XD a last chance for carry. If that doesn't help then I'll sell off the holster. Thanks guys for your input, and VOTE!!!

I carry an XD45, XD40, XD9SC, a P3AT, a P11 and as soon as it comes out, the PF-9. It all depends on what I am wearing, the weather and what I am doing. Having 1 CCW weapon limits your options.
I follow Verm's 1st rule of carrying... Carry the biggest gun for the conditions that can be concealed. If I can, the 45 in a shoulder rig is my first choice. If that won't work for what I am wearing, then I move down the line. The P3AT will work for anything and oftentimes it's worn as a backup. ( I will probably retire mine though for the PF-9)

I have both, so I can answer from experience.
I carry the PM9 when I can and the Keltec when I need 100% concealability. The Kahr is much more solidly made and much more accurate. I wouldn't hesitate to trust either, but when I can wear either pants that will fit the Kahr in the back pocket or an untucked shirt, it's the Kahr that I carry...

i sometimes carry my bersa .380 in an ankle or sometimes a cargo short pocket. i also carry it when hiking (as weight is an issue and i'm more worried about people than animals when/where i hike)
although my new XD 9 SC has been usurping the ankle spot from the bersa of late... ' |

I will be carrying my colt govt .380 about the same size as the karr, but it's more comfy for me.

I guess I should have been a little more specific. I generally wear bigger shirts. Printing isn't the issue, it's more or less my comfort level while carrying. I prefer SOB style carry, but I can't seem to wear it without discomfort in my lower back. I have had a few different holsters for it, but they are the collapsable type nylon (uncle mike's sidekick or desantis). I'm hoping with the new holster things will change but I'll find out here shortly. Honestly I may end up with both the kahr and kel-tec in the near future just for versatility and variety. Once I get the chance to hold and shoot a kahr, from what I've heard about them I'm likely to purchase one. The kel-tec would be a bonus because it's super light and small and relatively inexpensive. Thanks guys, I'll keep you updated in the near future. BTW, sorry I had this in the wrong section

I had exactly the same problem with my XDSub .40, which is why I ended up trading it. I loved the gun, but carrying it was a bear. It was not so much the size (it was blocky and thick though) but weight was a factor. A good holster helps, but sometimes the clothes did not allow a good holster either.
I ended up with a couple of guns for options - a Beretta Tomcat .32ACP in-pocket carry for when I need absolute concealement (like when I go walking and only have gym shorts and tshirt), a Bersa Thunder 380CC model for most other times I have shorts, and a Walther P99c for when I can wear a good belt/holster combo. Yes, so .32 is a weak round. It beats my bare hands if I kept leaving my gun home (like I did with the XD) Check the Bersa out. Of all my guns its the one that I carry most often, and don't mind putting 100 rounds through it at the range either (another important consideration for a carry gun - PRACTICE!)
