Anyone ever have a major failure with a gun?

I tend to hear things online that this gun or that has major problems after a large round count, such as the frame or slide cracking. Or people saying i need to replace all the springs after 5 thousand rounds or buy a buffer to keep my gun from breaking.

I want to know if anyone has actually had these type of major problems, especially if you have put several thousand rounds through your gun, or if they are isolated to one or two people and just get posted all over the internet. I hope my guns to last 10's of thousands of rounds without problems

Guns are machines. All machines have a possibility of bad parts, and all machines have parts that wear out over time. Take care of your gun, and it will take care of you.

I had a taurus that stopped firing twice in 2 years. First time the hammer would drop but it wouldn't hit the firing pin. Second time the trigger stopped working altogether. Sold it after the second failure.

Specific to XD family, no.

Minor issues with other guns, but those were around wear out phenomenon --> not catastrophic fails. I was also able to buy the parts and fix them (thank you Numrich!).

I own 5 XDm's & never had a single issue w/any of them.
Like said above keep them cleaned & lubed & it will serve you good for thousands of rounds or should IMO.
