I voted for 16. You can never get too much training!

We have an 8 hour our course plus range qualification. I just pre-qualified at the range. The guy told me that the state requires engaging a target at 1, 3, and 5 yards. They thought it should be tougher and changed the 1 yard to 7 yards. You shoot 2 and 3 round shots from the ready and presentation positions and need to score 70%. 40 rounds total.

In my opinion classroom time is much more important than range time. In the classroom you are learning the laws and the circumstances that protect you as a CCW permit holder. The laws they teach also protect us from and inform some of the "cowboys" out there who think they are the law because they are carrying a concealed weapon.

Range time is just to weed out the applicants that don't know their butt from their muzzle. The CCW process in NC does not "teach" you anything on the range. It is just a qualification.

As Mark S. said, in regards to carrying a gun....you can't have too much training.

16 hours or more.

I had to take 16 hrs., 4 on Friday, 8 on Saturday and 4 on Sunday. Only complaint is Friday all we talk about is gun care/safety stuff. Good for the beginer but time stands still for anyone else. Saturday all good you learn the laws, do's and don't, and the FATS machine. Sunday is the best you get to shoot!

The CCW class is a good start but everyone should move on from there to some good training till you die.

Nevada doesn't require a specific # of hours.
However, the material that is required to be taught means that pretty much every single one of the classes ends up being 8 hours; 4-5 classroom and 3-4 range time.

No training required here, just have to pay $30 a year and have a clean record and have 3 people sign the application as character references, took about 15 min. to get mine, but I wish there was training required, you could get a CCW and never even fired a gun before, kind of scary!!!

Here in PA we do not have any type of qualification either. In some respects I feel this is the proper way because I feel that it is a right to bear arms. But, on the other hand I've seen some of the folks coming into the office to get their permits, and let me tell you, some of them I wouldn't trust with a squirt gun let alone a pistol.

I believe it is the content that matters, not the time. I feel that the legal rammifications are what needs covered, not shot placement or how to clean your handgun.
