Where do you live? (ie City, Suburbs, ....)

I was looking at the poll on what your wife/girlfriend thought of guns and one person (i forget who now) raised the point that his girl didn't grow up in a family exposed to firearms. This made me realize that most of my friends from the city or suburbs did not have any experiance with guns and generally feared them and the operation of them.

I decided that this would be a good group to poll what type of setting you live in and exposure to guns when growing up.

All off the above as far as places lived growing up.

I grew up with firearms but developed an interest later (late twenties).

I could not decide on a choice. I have lived in all three and have been exposed to guns in all three. I really got interested in guns when my mother stopped buying my brother and I those sucker guns. You know the ones that where spring loaded and you shot a suction cup at the TV and it stuck. Problems was that when we broke the suckers we would sharpen pencils and shoot each other with them. We really did not agree with my mothers decition to have no more toy pistols though.

I assumed you meant where we live NOW, so I voted for "City (did not grow up with firearms)."

I grew up more in a small town. I didn't grow up w/ firearms at all. I knew my grandfather had a shotgun, but I didn't really "get into" asking him about it. It wasn't until I was older (early 30s) that I started getting interested, and then finally bought my first "real" firearm in 2005.

I grew up in a smaller town, well somewhat smaller.. 24,000 people but it's definitely not huge. I grew up with firearms. I have had a BB gun since I was probably about 5. Think I shot my first shotgun at about the age of 7 and had my own shotgun by the age of 8 or 9 I think. Had hunted since I was young too. So, I grew up being around guns pretty much my whole life... however I didn't buy my own gun with my own money, until I purchased my XD in january this year. Now the disease has caught on as I now have my AR on the way to me, and will have more pistols soon too hah. And I now live in a city with 300,000 people or so. Which by the way, seems to be a lot different than where I grew up, the officials here are very anti-gun so I suspect the view of some of the population is the same too, a lot more than where I grew up.

Thanks for all the replys, I am actually suprised at some of the results. I really thought that their would be a larger proportion of people previously exposed to firearms. It would be interesting to see how many people got involved with shooting through a friend or family and how many people decided to on their own (ie for personal protection, new sport, played too many video games, airsoft, etc.).

Thanks to all that voted.

Well, I say Atlanta because people know where that is. Anyone in GA knows that nobody actually lives in Atlanta. If you must know, I live about 50 miles south of Atlanta. In what many consider the "sticks".
