Huge problems with .45 semi-wadcutters in XD.45acp 4"
I loaded up some of my favorite 1911 ammo for an ipsc match. The load was a 200gr. ranier semi-wadcutter and it wouldnt work to say the least. it got caught up on the feed ramp almost every round, and the ones that got past the ramp got chewed up so bad that they wouldn't feed. I have had no problem with ball and hollowpoint bullets so i used those the rest of the match. Has anybody else had this problem?

I have had a different problem with SWCs. They seemed to feed OK, but it's hard to say for sure since every other shot was a failure to eject. You should experiment with powder loads and AOL. I personally load to 170pf and max OAL that will fit in a 1911 mag. That seems to give the best results in my 1911s. I have yet to sort out what the XD likes. I'm waiting for a lighter spring.

What OAL are you using? I've had troubles with swc in a glock 45 where the shoulder of the swc would catch up on the bottom of the feed ramp. The only solution was to go long. Really long. I had to run them at 1.270" OAL to get them to feed right in the glock.
My friends XD45 doesn't like swc either. It seems to feed at 1.260" OAL 200gr plated swc but the charge I put in there was too low to cycle the slide. Next time we head out, I'll whip up some 1.260", 1.265", and 1.270" rounds with enough charge to actually cycle and see what it likes. My 1911 likes 1.260". UD. |

Ya gotta remember that some guns just DON'T like swc loads. Have ya tried switching to a RNFP or RN?
