New truck tire time.....ouch$$$

Truck needs new shoes.... got a flat on the way home from the eldest soccer game today {They lost 2nd round of the tourney} and as I helped the 12 year old change the tire {he needs to learn} noticed that the tread is down. Can't complain too much...I have 54k on the tires and on a 4wd F150, that ain't bad.

Now, the problem.....what tires to get. On our other F150, we have the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo....been a great tire and have about 50k on those also {Hopefully that truck goes away before it needs new tires also}. Normally I would just go with a set of those, BUT and here is the but.... The 2008 has 20" rims...and from the Tire Rack, the Bridgestones are $225.00each....$900.00 plus mounting/tax/etc.....and there goes the XD-M I have been looking at.

The Firestone Destination A/T's have a good rating with the Tirerack, but my experience with Firestone Tires goes back to the 80's and the old 721's...so not much help there. I know that Bridgestone owns Firestone so an assumption is that they are good tires also. Cost on those is $141.00

Or I could go with the stock tires: Pirelli Scorpion ATR.... They have been a good tire, especially in wear, but the snow grip is not the best and I usually have to hit the 4wd switch pulling the boat out of the water. Cost on these is $134.00 each.

Looked at the BFG All Terrain T/A's, but they are very heavy which will kill the gas mileage and make more noise that I really want to have to put up with. Since this truck is a 08 and has already hit 54k, I spend a lot of time in the truck. Most of it is highway, but boat pulling, hunting, and getting to and from work in the snow is part of the truck's duties.

Particulars are:

2008 Ford F150 4x4 Super Crew
Tire size: 275-55 R20

Going to stick with an A/T tire....any inputs? Anyone running any of the other tires? Need to do this quick....don't see any reason to pay to fix a tire when new ones are on the way.

Thanks for the help

Woof

Bridgestone

I highly suggest staying with the Bridgestone Duelers. Great tire. Have them on the '98 Silverado Z-71 4X4. Long life, good grip, stay "clean" (as in, throw off snow and mud to keep grip), and quiet on the highway-not a lot of annoying tire noise.

Firestone 2nd choice. Stepson has them on his Durango. Seem good.

Stay away from BFG. Suck in the wet (rain). Big time. Hydroplane city.

I just put the Firestone Destination A/T on my 2004 F-150 Lariat to the tune of $900.00. However, great tires for highway and light/medium off road. Great on wet roads as well.

Try the Yokohama AT-S I have these on my 02 2500 Hd GMC and they work great and after doing some research they are one of the few Truck tires that have a mileage warrn. I live in an are of snow,Ice, Rain and mud and they clean-out well and are quite on the road. Good luck on your choice and I know it can be a big bite on the cheek pad.

not sure if they are available in size you need, but suggest you take a look at Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor. Great AT tire, have the snowflake rating so great in snow, are decent on dry highway, and mine did not seem to impact gas mileage. The Silent Armor name means the sidewalls are Kevlar, and in my experience that is not just a gimic, they really stand up to abuse.

Look hard at Cooper tires, I run them on my 05 F150 4x4 and have never had an issue with them. Plus they are currently running a $75 rebate on a full set.

I have a Toyota FJ, it still has the original set of Bridgestone Duelers after 50,000 miles. They have worn evenly an I rotate after 5,000 miles. I will but nothing else. I still have a lot of tread left. Very quite on the highway and I only do light offroad.

I have bought more expensive tires in the past but none have lasted this long.
