How do you carry your XD (chambered, etc)?

Hey everybody! Just wondering how people carried their XDs. I'm assuming the majority of people are carrying concealed except for LE or open carry areas.

I have an XD .40 and usually use an IWB. To be honest, I've NEVER felt comfortable keeping a round in the chamber when carrying this way. I understand the 2 safety system (grip and trigger) but i just don't trust myself not to discharge the weapon if i needed to draw it in a hurry...

Call it lack of training/discipline or being overly cautious... Just wondering what other people did.

I don't mean to sound rude but I don't think you are really ready to carry.

well, what i'm saying is that i carry IWB, no round chambered. that's what I feel most comfortable with. i wasn't looking for advice on how to carry as I've already made that decision for myself, just wondering what other people do.

how do you carry?

Would you suggest that i'm better off not carrying than carrying the way i do?

I appreciate the input. Thank you.

I think what he is saying is that carrying without one in the chamber is like not carrying at all. Being that most confrontation happen within 7 yards, you will be dead by the time you draw, rack the slide, and shoot.

If you are going to carry, go hot. The other way may be detremental to you, especially if you forget to cycle the slide and make ready to fire.

When I live in MI and carried, I always carried hot.

i agree with what you're saying... that will take some more practice, i think. I like my bersa for the external safety and decocker. i always keep that one hot.
I'm gonna get some .40 snap caps and use them for a little while just to be sure.
very good points. thanks for the info.

Thanks for clearing it up for my Old School. Just practice and get good instruction. Your finger is your safety. The only time your finger should be on the trigger is when you are on-target and you are ready to destroy it. Human or paper.

I carry with one in the chamber ready to go. My main carry now is my 1911. It's cocked and locked. My XD had protection duty for a while too. It was ready to go at a moments notice. I prefer IWB.

Hm, this is a tough poll for me since i carry my XD Service 3 ways depending on what i'm doing.

I carry her in an exposed holster, round chambered when i'm hunting.
I carry her concealed OWB, round chambered when it's cold and i can wear a fleace.
and lastly, I carry her IWB, round chambered when it's a bit warmer and i can wear a sweater.

Normally, I carry a Kahr PM9 and my XD Service was origionally purchased for bear protection when hunting.

I'm of the opinion that carrying a gun, for self defense, without a round chambered is like carrying a bar of soap.

Just my opinion on the subject.

021411 brings up a great reminder of the basic rules of gun safety.

IWB, Chambered. You must have a round in the gun for it to be effective.

I think that I have to agree here! Why carry if it's not ready to go? You may as well have a rock in your pockets! For CCW I carry either a Kahr PM9 locked and loaded or my Kimber ultra CDP ready to rock and roll. They way I see it is if I ever need it and have to draw and rack the slide, then it is too late...just my 2 cents though. The only way the gun is going off is if you pull the trigger, and unless you have a CC trigger job, you REALLY have to pull the trigger to make the thing go boom.
