a friend of mine said the same thing, but I was trying to gauge if people really bought a couple boxes or just saved up to get a bunch at once. I tend to get 500 a time when I can for instance.

The only time I buy online is for defensive ammo. For that, I only buy a few at a time.
I do the bulk stuff at Wally or anywhere else and I buy a couple hundred at a time, if it's available.

Back when you could buy ammo, I used to get 1000 round cases of .223 and 5.56 in sealed metal tins or just cardboard cases from Sportsmans Guide because the price was lower. Also, the price dropped at 1000 rounds of other ammo (purchased by the 50-round box).
Watch the shipping charges, the ammo gets cheaper per box to ship as you buy more.

Depends on how many I find and what the purchase limit is.

I do buy online, but not in bulk because of shipping charges.
Plus, it's hard to get good quality defensive ammo at a decent price in stores.

I usually buy online to find leadless ammo we like to use at the local indoor range. Also if I am looking for a specific defensive ammo. Most of the time just a couple of 20 or 50rd boxes.
